- Description:
- Abstract: This data contains a Digital Elevation Model (DEM) for the Adirondack Park, New York State.
- Purpose: Individual 7.5-minute quadrangle DEM grids were mosaiced together into a single comprehensive raster grid and masked in ArcView to the boundary of the St. Regis River Basin. The DEMs can be used for the ortho correction of aerial photography and as a layer in geographic information systems for natural and social science analysis. DEMs can also serve as a tool for volumetric analysis (such as flow direction, flow accumulation, and watershed analyses), for site location of towers, or for drainage delineation.
- Supplemental Information: The original 7.5-minute quadrangle 10-meter resolution DEMs were developed by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation as part of the National Mapping Program. They can be downloaded as individual quads from The Cornell University Geospatial Information Repository at http://cugir.mannlib.cornell.edu/index.html.

- Horizontal Positional Accuracy Explanation:
- Process Description: Applied GIS, Inc. processing steps: The individual DEMs were combined into a single composite grid using the MOSAIC command in the Spatial Tools extension of ArcView ( download http://gis.esri.com/arcscripts/details.cfm?CFGRIDKEY=721339607). The composite 10-meter grid was then clipped by recalculating it while a grid of the boundary of the St. Regis watershed was the set as the Mask theme.
- QA/QC analysis: Quality Assurance/Quality Control was determined by filling "sinks" in the DEM. Sinks are cells within the DEM whose elevation value is much lower than the surrounding cells causing the sink cells to have undefined flow direction. To fill sinks it is necessary to turn on the Hydrologic Modeling extension in ArcView and make the DEM theme active. Then, from the Hydro menu choose 'Fill Sinks'.
