Board Authorizes Mt Van Hoevenberg UMP Amendment
RAY BROOK, NY – At the January Agency meeting, the Adirondack Park Agency Board authorized an amendment to the Mt Van Hoevenberg Unit Management Plan and heard an informational presentation about NEXT MOVE NY.
First, the board adopted a resolution finding the proposed final 2025 amendment to the 1986 Mt Van Hoevenberg Unit Management Plan (UMP) to be in conformance with the Adirondack Park State Land Master Plan. The amendment allows for facility upgrades and the construction of mountain biking trails at Mt Van Hoevenberg. The Mt Van Hoevenberg Intensive Use Area is a recreational and competitive sports hub located approximately seven miles southeast of Lake Placid off NYS Route 73 in the Town of North Elba, Essex County. The full details of the package can be read online
Then, the Board was provided with an informational presentation about the implementation of the NEXT MOVE NY Initiative from Michelle Capone, Director of Regional Development, and Ben Cruz, Program Administrator, at the Development Authority of the North Country (DANC). NEXT MOVE NY is an award-winning strategy that will strengthen workforce training opportunities for transitioning Fort Drum soldiers and connect them with local employers. DANC has been selected to establish the administrative framework and provide leadership for the new program. The full presentation can be viewed online
